JM point guard lives for hoops


When John Mattison has a bad game he jokes that Annie still loves him no matter what. Allison Schumacher didn’t get good by accident. This Rochester John Marshall swimmer swims and swims some more.A workout for her can be 3.5 miles of swimming. That equals 6,000 yards or 

240 lengths of a 25-yard pool. Just thinking about it can leave you exhausted. Allison, a 17-year-old senior at JM, will be heading to the University of Minnesota in the fall to swim for the Gophers.

The Karate Kid came out in 1984, more than ten years before Brendan 

Rasinski was born. Ralph Macchio, who played the Karate Kid, is now 51 years old. But the movie spurred Rasinski to become Rochester’s Karate Kid. “I remember watching it with my father (well after it was released) and it that got me interested in the sport,” Brendan says. “My parents didn’t force me into it.”


That was when Brendan was seven years old and now, at age 17, the

There was once a television show called “What’s My Line.”  Four contestants would line up, only one had a certain occupation and it was up to members of a panel to match one of the individuals to the occupation. If Marcus Sherels had been in such a lineup there’s no chance he would have been selected as the professional football player.
