Several weeks ago I got a phone call from former RCTC head football coach Brad LaPlante. He was on his way from Texas to Mississippi to interview for a head coaching job at a community college in the northern part of the state. Three years ago my reaction would’ve been skeptical wondering why this Minnesota kid from Chatfield would move from Texas to Mississippi to coach football. I’m sure there are people around

It could be mid-June with temps in the 90’s and I’m telling my wife I can’t wait to watch college football on Saturdays. Of course she gets irritated and continues to pound home the fact I should just enjoy the beautiful summer months. Every weekend during the fall the football fix begins on Friday night with the high school games and Saturday morning starts pretty early whether it’s headed up to TCF Bank Stadium for the Gophers or hunkered in my basement ready for College Game Day at 9:00 AM. Over the 27-years in sports television i’ve built up some great relationships with coaches, athletic directors and referees. Trust me when i say it takes time to earn their trust. When I first started in the business everybody was very nice but never really opened up. But over the last ten-years or so things have changed. I’ve developed some lifetime friendships and trust has played a huge factor.
